Nuclear Shadows of Palm Trees / 2019
Nikolai Garcia's Nuclear Shadows of Palm Trees is an homage to a city misunderstood. He is a native plant reminiscing on the hours, days and years that've passed him by. We become the infrastructure of his heart, the soft tissue of his agony. He shows us a Los Angeles that many know and endure, but scarcely write poems about. He introduces us to the depths of strangers and the familiarity of palm trees. The warmness of dark bars and the alarming rate in which we love. A gorgeous collection of the human condition. A collection of vulnerability unscathed.
-- Ingrid M. Calderon-Collins, author of Ablution and Zenith Nikolai's poems capture the "ordinary" details of living and loving in Los Angeles, and renders them as extraordinary by simply telling it like it is. -- Lady Imix, Heartbreak Radio |
